A new year in Japan begins with a shrine visit. This is called as Hatsumode. The date and time of worship is determined by each person freely. However, from midnight on January 1st, many people visit shrines near their houses and wish them good luck for this year.
There are over 80,000 shrines in Japan. After the prayer is over, buy amulets sac and amulets bill and also buy an written oracle.
There is not necessarily one shrine to go to Hatsumode. ZENJIRO makes pilgrimages at least 3 shrines, Kotohira at Kanagawa, Hie at Tokyo and Hakone every year.
